Trout is the name for a number of species of freshwater fish belonging to the Salmoninae subfamily of the family Salmonidae. They are classified as an oily fish. The word trout is also used as part of the name of some non-salmonid fish such as Cynoscion nebulosus, the spotted seatrout or speckled trout.Trout are closely related to salmon, and genuses which contain both fish include Oncorhynchus (Pacific salmon and trout) and Salmo (Atlantic salmon and brown trout). Some trout such as Lake trout usually live in freshwater lakes and/or rivers exclusively, while others such as the Rainbow trout (sometimes referred to as the Steelhead salmon) spend two or three years at sea before returning to freshwater to spawn.
The are a number of flies which are top of the list. Having tried quite a number of flies in Northern Dalarna, I have come to a few on the list pending on the time of the year. The CD Sedge/CD Caddis, a great fly during the hight of the summer. There are a number of early season flies, each locations has a fly that works well. Getting to know the local area where your intend to go fishing, it would be a good idea to have a local show you what flies to use. There is a list of flies tied by Davie McPhail, which I think ties great flies with good instructions.
